As you might have seen we’ve recently moved studio (read more here). Initially we thought all we had to do was update our site with our new address and phone number and Bish Bash Boom, that would be that. Instead we realised that our old site needed a revamp, it was built for flash 8, wasn’t search engine friendly and took an age to update.
Queue Wordpress:
Recently we have been using WordPress as a foundation/platform for most of our website builds. Our main reasons were that it is infinitely more search engine friendly using permalinks, and a cinch to update. Why custom build a PHP or ASP content management system when wordpress has all the functionality you’ll need. Even some of our less-technical clients, once they are shown once how to update their site, they can plough ahead and not need to come back to us for minor updates.
So instead of doing a full rebrand and re-launch we took the style and functionality of our old flash site and recreated the site in Wordpress, we added a few nice new features like a jQuery gallery of featured projects on our homepage.
Some of the new features look like they are still flash, namely our updated portfiolio which pans between projects using some more nice and neat jQuery. we love that stuff!
Anyway we’ll be probably doing a rebrand soon, our orange logo reminds me too much of eircom, which brings back the painful memories of moving office so while we learned lots about wordpress and jQuery doing this revamp, it’ll probably all be changing again soon!!
